This website is written in-house by Eirik Aune-Vassbø, with occasional contributions from Tore in the kitchen, Marit on matters of housekeeping, and Lars on matters of the building's history and the fjord. All text published on the site is signed off by a member of the family before it goes up.
How we check what we say
Historical claims about the station and the fjord are checked against the Sunnmøre Museum archive at Ålesund, the Riksantikvaren listing record (167-04), the Stranda parish archive, and the conservation report produced for the 2017–2020 restoration by Synnøve Eide, Ålesund. The fishermen's co-operative records of the Sunnmøre Fiskersamlag, including the original 1934 station accounts, are held at the Statsarkivet in Trondheim, and we keep a calendared copy in the reception cupboard.
Claims about the natural history of Storfjorden and the surrounding mountains rest on the Norwegian Environment Agency biotope surveys for the Stranda kommune area, and on our own daily observation, kept in the Fjord Log since opening. The eagle nest record is from the Statens naturoppsyn survey for Møre og Romsdal.
On the use of drafting tools
We occasionally use drafting assistance to tidy a paragraph or to suggest a structure for a new page. No published text on this site goes up without a member of the family reading and signing off the final version, and the voice on the site is intended to be ours and no one else's. If anything reads false, please write and tell us.
What we do when we get something wrong
If we publish something incorrect — a date, a name, a measurement, a claim about the building — please write to resepsjon@straumshornhotell.com. We will correct the page within a few days, and where the correction is substantial we will note it at the bottom of the page with the date of the change.
This page itself is reviewed annually, during the January–February closure when the hotel is quiet.
